Release of the First Russian-Made MRI-Compatible Pacemaker

Cardioelectronics, part of the Rostec State Corporation, is a Russian manufacturer of cardiac pacemakers. The company produces a wide range of medical devices for treating patients with heart rhythm disorders, including a dual-chamber MRI-compatible pacemaker model with no Russian equivalents. The quality of its products meets the standards of global market leaders and has been confirmed by many years of use in the country’s leading medical institutions. Sergey Dmitrochenko, General Director of Cardioelectronics, spoke about the company’s history, achievements, and future plans.

What are the main stages of the company’s development, and what are its current objectives?

Our business is based on many years of experience in pacemaker manufacturing. Development and production of these medical devices began in 1961 as part of the Klimovsk Stamping Plant, and since 1985 this activity has been carried out within the independent legal entity Cardioelectronics. In 2025, the company became part of Rostec State Corporation. This made it possible to increase production volumes and launch the first Russian-made MRI-compatible pacemaker. Last year, we supplied around 8,000 devices to medical institutions. These included single-chamber, dual-chamber, and triple-chamber pacemakers. In addition, we manufacture electrodes designed with the technical specifications of our pacemakers in mind. Today, our key objective is to further develop the production of Russian high-tech medical devices intended for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, primarily arrhythmia.

In your opinion, what criteria should modern devices for controlling heart rate meet?

Pacemakers belong to the category of complex Class III medical devices in terms of potential risk of use. Therefore, the effectiveness, safety, and quality of the medical products we manufacture are of paramount importance. According to these criteria, our devices are on par with those of leading global manufacturers, while Cardioelectronics offers a more competitive price. In terms of functionality, the equipment we produce fully meets the current needs of the Russian market and provides effective solutions for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases.

What do you consider to be your company’s main competitive advantages?

Thanks to a high degree of production localization, we are independent of external factors and can guarantee uninterrupted supplies. The availability of finished goods in stock enables us to deliver our equipment to hospitals in the shortest possible time. In addition, we take doctors’ needs into account and develop medical technology based on their requests and practical experience. We are currently implementing a number of joint projects with our partners. In particular, together with the Bakulev National Medical Research Center for Cardiovascular Surgery, we are developing a new generation of pacemakers.

How would you describe Cardioelectronics’ geographic presence in the Russian market?

The company’s products are sold in approximately 40 Russian regions, including Moscow, the Moscow, Arkhangelsk, and Belgorod regions, as well as the republics of Udmurtia, Adygea, and Komi. The geography of supplies continues to expand. We supply our devices to institutions including the Bakulev National Medical Research Center for Cardiovascular Surgery, the Vishnevsky National Medical Research Center of Surgery, the Shumakov National Medical Research Center of Transplantology and Artificial Organs, the Vladimirsky Moscow Regional Research and Clinical Institute, and many others. We also work in Crimea with the Semashko Republican Clinical Hospital.

What plans can you highlight for the development of Cardioelectronics and the strengthening of its status as a Russian manufacturer?

The company is currently working to have its products included in the Register of Russian Industrial Products. In addition, we plan to expand our product range with medical devices for cardiac surgery and cardiology that are currently in short supply and are represented on the market exclusively by foreign manufacturers. In particular, we plan to develop an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator — a more complex device capable of urgently restoring normal heart rhythm using a powerful electrical discharge. Going forward, the company will also continue working on modernization, reducing the size of pacemakers, and developing their consumer functions.
