Rostec Presents Medical Device Market Analysis: Share of Domestic Products Increases to 32%
The production of medical products is one of the key areas of the State Corporation’s activities, with its portfolio comprising approximately 200 types of medical devices.
RT-Medical Technologies (RT-MedTech, part of Rostec State Corporation) has analyzed the Russian medical device market. The share of domestically manufactured products has increased to 32% over the past five years. The market volume exceeded RUB 876 billion in 2025. Rostec enterprises made a significant contribution to the industry’s development by introducing new medical technologies, ranging from advanced diagnostic equipment to high-tech prosthetic solutions.
The study was prepared by RT-MedTech, Rostec’s unified center of competence for medical engineering. The company is responsible for promoting and supplying medical equipment to healthcare institutions and for implementing the State Corporation’s medical engineering development strategy.
According to RT-MedTech, the Russian medical device market reached RUB 876.6 billion in 2025, representing a 3% increase compared to the previous year. In monetary terms, the market grew by RUB 26.8 billion. The average annual growth rate over the past five years was 5%.
The three largest medical device segments by sales volume were In Vitro Diagnostics (laboratory testing), General Surgery and Endoscopy, and Cardiovascular Surgery and Neurosurgery.
Rostec operates across all three segments, consistently expanding production and strengthening its market position. For example, in the Cardiovascular Surgery and Neurosurgery segment, the State Corporation increased its planned sales volume by 9%. This growth was driven by the launch of serial production of Russia’s first MRI-compatible cardiac pacemaker.
The expansion of production of new types of medical equipment by Rostec enterprises is reducing the Russian healthcare system’s dependence on imports. Last year, the share of domestically manufactured products reached 32%, compared with 30% a year earlier. The highest level of localization was recorded in the Rehabilitation and Restorative Medicine segment, where domestic products account for 74% of the market. Rostec enterprises are among the key drivers of this segment. For example, over the past four years, the Central Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedics (CITO) has manufactured more than 10,000 prosthetic devices with varying levels of functionality, including prostheses designed for sports. Many of these products have no imported equivalents. The use of high-tech prostheses combined with rehabilitation programs enables participants in the Special Military Operation (SMO) to return to active lives within a short period of time.
“Rostec is making a significant contribution to the import substitution of medical equipment by bringing modern and in-demand technologies to the market. The Corporation’s products are represented in virtually all key areas of healthcare—from intensive care, surgery and diagnostics to prosthetics. In 2025, the Corporation invested RUB 279 million in medical projects. In the coming years, we plan to increase our market presence fourfold and launch serial production of approximately 40 new types of medical equipment. These initiatives directly contribute to increasing the share of Russian-made products and strengthening the technological independence of the industry. The statistics confirm this trend: over the past five years, the share of domestically manufactured medical devices in the Russian market has increased to 32%. In our view, the further development of the medical technology industry will depend on three key factors: deeper localization, the establishment of a domestic component base, and the development of technologically advanced categories of medical equipment,” said Sergey Tsyb, State Secretary of Rostec State Corporation.
It should be noted that the production of high-tech medical products is one of the key areas of Rostec State Corporation’s activities. The Corporation’s portfolio includes approximately 200 types of medical devices for neonatology, surgery, oncology, ophthalmology, and other healthcare specialties. More than 120 types are already in serial production, while 17 additional projects are currently under development.
Rostec also manufactures more than 150 types of immunobiological products, including vaccines, bacteriophages, and immunoglobulins; implements projects for the construction and equipping of healthcare facilities; develops a network of prosthetics centers; participates in rehabilitation programs for participants in the Special Military Operation; invests in scientific research; develops innovative medical equipment; and advances Russian medical technologies as part of the country’s import substitution policy.
