Rostec will supply Russian medical institutions with 1,000 MRI-compatible pacemakers this year. Next year, production of these devices is planned to increase to 5,000 units.
Rostec’s Cardioelectronics enterprise will supply healthcare facilities across Russia with 1,000 Apollo MRI dual-chamber MRI-compatible pacemakers this year. The device is the first Russian-made pacemaker that allows patients to undergo magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
The pacemaker is designed to treat cardiac arrhythmias. It continuously monitors the heart rhythm and features a memory function that stores data on cardiac activity. The information is transmitted to the treating physician, who can monitor the patient’s condition and adjust treatment accordingly.
The key advantage of the Apollo MRI is that it enables patients with implanted pacemakers to safely undergo MRI scans for the diagnosis of cancer, stroke, cardiovascular diseases and musculoskeletal disorders. This significantly expands diagnostic and treatment options for patients with implanted pacemakers. According to expert estimates, more than 50% of pacemaker patients require MRI diagnostics.
“The production of domestically manufactured MRI-compatible Apollo MRI pacemakers represents a significant step forward for Russian healthcare. The device has the potential to replace imported alternatives. The demand for pacemakers in Russia is currently high. According to cardiac surgeons, MRI-compatible pacemakers should account for at least 70% of all such devices. Therefore, next year we plan to fully transition the production of dual-chamber pacemakers to the advanced MRI-compatible version. As a result, production of these devices is expected to increase to 5,000 units in 2027,” said Sergey Dmitrochenko, CEO of Cardioelectronics.
Rostec’s Cardioelectronics enterprise launched serial production of the Apollo MRI MRI-compatible pacemaker at the end of last year. Since the beginning of 2026, the device has been actively introduced into clinical practice. During the first half of this year, Apollo MRI pacemakers were successfully implanted in more than 200 patients at 10 healthcare facilities, including medical institutions in Moscow, the Moscow Region, Lipetsk Region and Volgograd Region.
