RT-MedTech: Share of Domestic Medical Devices Reaches 30%

The share of Russian-manufactured medical devices has reached 30% of the domestic market. Driven by import substitution initiatives, this figure has grown by 7 percentage points over the past five years. The data was presented by Sergey Dmitrochenko, General Director of RT-MedTech (a Rostec State Corporation company), during his analysis of the 2020–2024 market trends at the Russian Healthcare Week forum.
The market study highlights not only increased production localization but also a significant expansion of overall market capacity. Since 2021, the total market volume has risen by 18%, climbing from 695 billion RUB to 850 billion RUB in 2024. This growth is credited to sustained state support, rise of healthcare investment, and increasing demand for advanced medical technology.
Currently, there are approximately 37,000 valid registration certificates (RCs) in the Russian Federation covering both domestic and imported medical products. However, the share of Russian manufacturers in the total number of RCs is only 37%, underscoring significant potential for market expansion. According to Sergey Dmitrochenko, achieving this requires systematic measures to strengthen the country's technological sovereignty, including harmonizing criteria for domestic production, ensuring fair competition with EAEU manufacturers, establishing a national registry of Russian components, securing domestic intellectual property rights for key technologies, and reinforcing the "national preference" principle in public procurement.
«Technological sovereignty supposes autonomous control over the competencies for developing, producing, and scaling advanced medical devices. Rostec enterprises are successfully addressing this challenge, reducing their dependence on import. In 2023-2024, we increased our production in promising segments: in vitro diagnostics grew by 52%, and sales in rehabilitation and restorative medicine increased by 65%. By the end of 2025, we plan to increase the production in such segments as cardiovascular surgery (implantable pacemakers), orthopedics (endoprostheses, implants), neonatal equipment (therapy for newborns), and general hospital equipment», – emphasized Sergey Dmitrochenko, General Director of RT-MedTech.
Rostec State Corporation unites 30 enterprises specialized in medical device production. The Corporation's portfolio includes over 200 medical products. Rostec actively develops advanced technologies in intensive care, functional diagnostics, ophthalmology, surgery, cardiovascular and neurosurgery, rehabilitation and prosthetics, in vitro diagnostics, and other areas.
RT-MedTech, a subsidiary of Rostec State Corporation, serves as the Corporation's single competence center in medical device production, coordinating the promotion and supply of equipment to medical institutions and implementing the Corporation's medical device manufacturing development strategy.
The Russian Healthcare Week scientific and practical forum is taking place from December 8th to 11th at the Crocus Expo Exhibition Center. As one of the key federal events in medicine, it serves as the biggest platform for showcasing innovation. The forum agenda includes discussions on current healthcare priorities, results of national projects, technological sovereignty issues, and presentations of developments by young scientists.
This year the event has attracted over 27,000 specialists and more than 1,000 companies from ten countries, including Belarus, India, and China. Breakthrough medical solutions are being presented by leading enterprises of the Rostec State Corporation, including RT-MedTech, Shvabe, Rosel, KRET, and Technodinamika. The event is organized by the State Duma of the Russian Federation, the Russian Ministry of Health, and EXPOCENTRE JSC, with support from the Federation Council, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the Ministry of Economic Development.
